2011 was a very dry year for Colorado. Warm weather all year long is nice, but it can wreak havoc on vegetation and the effect the natural cycle the landscapes across the state. That said, it was very difficult to find sunflower fields that year but I did manage to find this healthy patch. I stuck out my claim in this field and waited till sunset to capture a full spectrum of colors. Sunflower fields are at their peak typically in early to mid-August. They are sheer joy to photograph, endless possibilities.
